This classic has been written after five years of research. About The Authors Dominique Lapierre, born in 1931, is a French author. He moved to America as a teenager. At the age of 18, he won a Fulbright scholarship to study economics at Lafayette College, Pennsylvania. Lapierre decided to hitchhike across America during his summer vacation. His first book, A Dollar for a Thousand Kilometers, was written after his twenty thousand miles of adventure that started with just thirty dollars. After he got married, the couple honeymooned for a year across the globe. After their return to France, he penned down Honeymoon around the Earth. Some of this other books are The City of Joy, Once Upon a Time in The Soviet Union, and A Rainbow in the Night: The Tumultuous Birth of South Africa. Lapierre was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2008. Larry Collins, born in 1929, was an American writer. While in the Army, he met Lapierre in Paris. Together they wrote many bestsellers for the next forty years, some of which are Is Paris Burning?, Freedom at Midnight, and The Fifth Horseman. Collins passed away in 2005. He graduated with a BA from Yale in 1951, and later joined the US Army. He then took up journalism and worked for the United Press International, followed by Newsweek.
