Hemendra Kumar Roy (1888-1963) is one of the few writers who wrote detective, ghost and historical novels with equal elan. He wrote most of his stories before India was independent and back at that time there was no Google or online library. I am mentioning this so that you can truly grasp the level of research this legendary writer did without any easy resource.The lucidity of Hemendra Kumar's language is well known, but in this book his choice of words will also impress you. This book features 8 novels, 14 novellas and stories, and 18 essays. This book is a gem of Bengali literature. I bought this book from Kolkata Boimela 2015. The novels not only discuss the lifestyle of ancient India and Europe, but also gives valid information about the cities, style of war, strength of armed forces under various kings and much more. I mean how may books have you ever read that tell you exactly how many watch towers were there in Pataliputra? We read about Porus and Alexander speech after battle, but do you know that Porus was the main man behind the rise of Chandragupta Maurya? Without his army, Chandragupta could never be the emperor of India.
