Some of Sen’s well-known books include A Frank Friendship: Gandhi And Bengal: A Descriptive Chronology, An Uncertain Glory: India And It’s Contraindications, The Argumentative Indian: Writings On Indian History, Culture And Identity, and Development As Freedom. Sen was born on the 3rd of November, 1933, in Santiniketan, West Bengal, India. He completed his schooling from Visva-Bharati University School. Sen completed his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Presidency College, Kolkata (University of Calcutta), graduating with a first-class honours. He also finished another B.A degree, M.A, and Ph.D. from Trinity College, Cambridge. Sen currently holds the position of Thomas W. Lamont University Professor at Harvard University, where he is also a lecturer of Economics, and Philosophy. Till date, he has been presented with honorary doctorates from over 90 universities across the globe. In the year 2006, Sen was listed among “The 100 Most Influential People In The World”, by the Time magazine. Sen has also been presented with the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1998, followed by the Bharat Ratna in 1999.
