It is known as karupali or lrukolli in siddha system of medicine.it is native to india and found wild or cultivated in all parts of the country.Putranjiva roxburghii is an evergreen tree growing up to 12 metres tall.The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and source of beads, oil and wood.
