Pankaj: Bengal’s Forgotten Cricket Legend by the sports and cricket writer Gautam Bhattacharya is a book on the life and achievements of the less sung hero Pankaj Roy. Summary of the Book Pankaj Roy, an extremely talented and skilled cricketer from West Bengal, India. Pankaj made his debut in 1946 -47 and scored a spectacular century on his very first match. He was peerless in the state of Bengal until the phenomenal Sourav Ganguly entered the world of cricket. Even then, very less has been written and spoken about Pankaj. He has scored a massive total of 11868 runs in his career and was awarded the esteemed Padma Shri by the government of India. This book, hence gains more attention, as it makes a very honest effort in giving a tribute to one of the finest cricketers the country and the game has seen. The book was conceptualized by Pankaj’s son Pranab Roy, who also happened to be a cricketer. The book has an appreciative foreword written by Sourav Ganguly, who also comes from West Bengal. This book is a translation by Krishna Dutta, from the Bengali original. About the Authors Gautam Bhattacharya is an Indian sports journalist and author. He is the Associate Editor of the Ananda Bazar Patrika. Gautam completed his graduation course from St. Xavier’s College. He has been the recipient of many sports journalism awards. Gautam has also authored Bapi Bari Ja, Sach, Bodyliner Birudhh, Selebriti Ekhon Aapnio and the first e-book in Bengali – Jaya He. Krishna Dutta was born in Calcutta, India and has lived in London for a long time now, working as a teacher. Krishna has authored many books including Rabindranath Tagore: The Myriad-minded Man, Calcutta: A Cultural and Literary History: A Cultural and Literary Companion, Noon in Calcutta: Short Stories from Bengal, Purabi: A Miscellany In Memory Of Rabindranath Tagore and An Anthology (collection of poems by Rabindranath Tagore). Pankaj: Bengal’s Forgotten Cricket Legend is translated from Bengali to English by Krishna.
