With 26th Edition, the book completes 50 years of its glorious journey-connecting to so many generations of students. It is an emotional time for me, remembering my husband Dr. J.E. Park, the founding author of this book. The book has been updated as needed. The chapter on Communicable Diseases. contains new matter on COVID-19 the current pandemic that is playing havoc throughout the world, the new treatment guidelines for Tuberculosis (2019), the new treatment guidelines for HIV/AIDs (2019), updated Leprosy, Viral hepatitis etc. The chapter of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases now contains new diagnostic guidelines of diabetes mellitus, new matter on accidents and injuries, snake bite, cancer etc. "Nutrition and health" has been updated with 2020 recommendations for the nutrients. New data replaces the old ones in the chapters on Demography and Preventive Medicine in Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Geriatrics. New matter on Health and Wellness centres has been added. A completely new chapter on Essential Medicines and Counterfeit Medicines has been added. Chapter on Mental Health contains the new survey report. The 11th ICD replaces the 10th ICD, In conclusion, I wish to express my gratitude to all those under graduate, post graduate students and teachers whose comments and encouragement has helped me to keep the book up-to-date. Lastly I extend my appreciation to Mr. Brij Mohan Bhanot for the care bestowed in publication of this book.
