Summary of the Book The story is about Parthiban, who is a Chola King. His empire is surrounded by powerful empires like the Pandiyas, Cheras and the Pallavas, who are trying to invade his territory from all directions. Moreover, Parthiban has to pay huge taxes to Narasimha Chakravarti, who is the most dominant king of Southern India. Parthiban refuses to pay taxes and decides to go on a war against the Pallava ruler. Before leaving for war he unveils his dream of Chola becoming the strongest empire of the region to his son Vikraman. Parthiban gets killed in the war and his son Vikraman takes on the responsibility of realizing his father’s dream. He is helped by a Shaivite devotee, Shivanadiyar in his quest. Will Vikraman be able to realize his father’s dream? What is Shivanadiyar’s true identity? This book was later made into a film in 1960 with same name. It is a part of a trilogy; the other books in the series are Sivakamiyin Sabatham and Ponniyin Selvan. About Kalki Kalki was the pen name of R. Krishnamurthy, a prolific Tamil freedom fighter, novelist, short story writer, journalist, humorist and poet. He has authored over 120 short stories, 10 novelettes, five novels, and three historical romances. He is the author of Kalvanin Kaadhali , Solaimalai Ilavarasi, Alai Osai, only to name a very few.
