Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is the first book in Rick Riordan’s hit mythological fantasy series. Summary of the Book Percy Jackson is an ordinary boy. He has school to attend, a lousy step-father to deal with and issues of abandonment because his father ran out on him and his mother before he was born. There is nothing special about him, or so he thinks. Percy is one among a unique set of children who are living in hiding on this world. They have all been abandoned by one of their parents, and their parentage is a secret that has changed their lives forever. Each of them is the son or daughter of a God straight out of Greek mythology. Most of them are minor Gods in the Pantheon, but Percy is special even among them. When Zeus’ lightning bolt is stolen, the God blames Poseidon’s son and threatens to kill him if the bolt isn’t returned. However, Percy has no idea why that should have anything to do with him. After all, he couldn’t be Poseidon’s son, could he? About Rick Riordan Rick Riordan is an American writer. He is best known for his series Tres Navarre and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Riordan graduated from the University of Texas. The Percy Jackson series was adapted into two films of a supposedly planned trilogy. The films starred Logan Lerman as the titular character.
