Official Flipkart Review Delhi – the capital city. Delhi – almost a mystery in so many ways. Malvika Singh perhaps is the only one who could speak about the city and chronicle it the way she has in “Perpetual City”. “Perpetual City” is one of those books that you want more of – that you just want to keep reading. Malvika speaks of her family history and brilliantly intertwines it with the history of the city. The smells, the roads, the monuments, the character of the city shines in this biography. The history – with its vastness and sometimes glorified is spoken about as is, but with the magical touch of her writing – which is both wistful and accepting of modern times. The book also looks at the dark side of the city in an unbiased manner, which is most needed for a book of this nature. And yet, all said and done it is only a short biography. A must read this season. Malvika Singh fell instantly in love with Delhi when she arrived here. The book has been divided into two sections: perpetual city and changing city. The former talks about Delhi in the 50s and 60s and the enchanting city that it used to be. The latter is about its evolution and what it has become today. Summary of the Book Delhi is a city which is easy to fall in love with. It gives you an experience of both the old and the brand new. There are monuments and structures which are centuries of years old and have great stories to tell. At the same time Delhi has seen a rapid change over the last few years. She tells us how, in the name of modernizing the city, a lot of old structures had been destroyed to build new ones. The old hangouts which were once quiet have now become commercial with big buildings and malls. Being in Delhi used to be about experiencing the monuments, food and music, but it is not the case anymore. Still, despite all of this, Delhi continues to be one city that people cannot help falling in love with. About the Author Malvika Singh is an author by profession.
