Peter Pan is a fictional character created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie. A free-spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up, Peter Pan spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the mythical island of Neverland as the leader of the Lost Boys, interacting with fairies, pirates, mermaids, Native Americans, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland. Peter Pan, in full Peter Pan; or, The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up, play by Scottish playwright J.M. Barrie, first produced in 1904. Although the title character first appeared in Barrie's novel The Little White Bird (1902), he is best known as the protagonist of Peter Pan. The play, originally composed of three acts, was often revised, and the definitive version in five acts was published in 1928. The work added a new character to the mythology of the English-speaking world in the figure of Peter Pan, the eternal boy. "Children have the strangest adventures without being troubled by them."One night when Peter Pan, the mischievous little boy who can fly, is caught listening to Mrs. Mary Darling's bedtime stories, he loses his shadow while escaping. As he comes back for it, he wakes up Wendy Darling, who attaches it back to him.
