About Swami Vivekananda Narendra Nath Datta, later known as Swami Vivekananda, was a Hindu monk. Narendra Nath Datta was born in 1863 in the Bengal Presidency, British India. He was interested in the spiritual path from a young age. His quest for a guru who could answer his searching questions led him to Swami Ramakrishna. He became one of Ramakrishna's prime disciples, certainly the most famous of them all. He established the Ramakrishna Mission. His lectures and writings inspired the youth of India to take pride in their culture and heritage. He died in 1902, when he was 39 years old.
