Published in the year 2008, Plant Biotechnology: The Genetic Manipulation Of Plants is a book that provides the readers with insights into the subject of genetic manipulation, and the technology incorporated. Summary Of The Book Plant Biotechnology: The Genetic Manipulation of Plants provides the readers with a thorough guide to the technology used for genetic manipulation, and the utilization of this technology for growing and cultivating plants. Through the course of this book, the readers are provided with insights into the techniques incorporated for genetic manipulation, in a clear and concise manner, by means of several case studies. These case studies help the reader understand the way this powerful tool is utilized in practice. There are 13 chapters in this book, and some of them include The Genetic Manipulation of Herbicide Tolerance, Reducing the Effects of Viral Disease, Molecular Farming, Beyond Genetically Modified Crops, Plant Tissue Culture, Vectors for Plant Transformation, Plant Disease Resistance, The Genetic Manipulation of Pest Resistance, The Improvement of Crop Yield and Quality, and Techniques for Plant Transformation. Man has always desired to better their yield of crop plants by means of hybridization and selective plant breeding. Nowadays, genetic manipulation is used greatly for directing plant breeding. In this book, the readers are also enlightened on the broader issues that revolve around the GM crop debate. In this edition of Plant Biotechnology: The Genetic Manipulation Of Plants, the twelfth chapter contains updated information on the subjects of commercial planting, public acceptance of GM plants, and regulation. Additionally, certain topics pertaining to genomic technology such as tilling has also been covered. The readers are provided with access to an Online Resource Centre as well.
