This book has focused on a very specific and sensitive aspect of South Africa’s foreign policy, namely its fresh relations with its neighboring countries in the backdrop of the historic changes that have taken place within the country. The objective of this study is to critically examine the scope and strength of the mutually beneficial relations between the ‘new’ South Africa and the southern African region that is envisaged under the SADC formulation. The approach towards building closer co-operation through regional economic integration tends largely to be seen in terms of that steps South Africa would take in enhancing regional co-operation and development. The book has also discussed South Africa’s relations with India in the post-apartheid era that have flourised in various spheres like political, economic, cultural and sports. The author submits that in the background of current international scenario markedly influenced by the process of globalization, there is an imperative need to strengthen ties of cooperation and understanding with South Africa. Such ties would also help revitalize India’s foreign policy with regard to Africa from political, economic and geostrategic perspectives.
