The book entitled “Postmodernism and Literature: India & World” is an attempt to respond to the most contemporary critical theory in terms of its various application in different genres. The present book is in the form of the postmodern praxis as the chapters of the book touch upon the numerous aspects of the theory being practiced by different researchers and writers. It’s also true that one critical current flowing in one part of the globe quite naturally informs the art and literature of the entire world and so the literature produced in India can’t be exception. It seems that the art and literature of the world created after the First World War demonstrate a general tendency of postmodernism in terms of self- reflexivity, doubt, fracture of boundaries and problem of communication etc. Look at the World literature and the Indian literature today, a glaring postmodern flavour is noticeable. It is unmistakably noticeable in the different genres- novel, drama, poetry, cinema, music, sculpture, and painting. No wonder, the works of contemporary Indian writers in English like Salman Rushdie, Amitav Ghosh, Mahesh Dattani, Shashi Tharoor, Karnard, and the Diaspora writers as well as the Expressionistic writers bear postmodern stance.
