Power Plant Engineering is a comprehensive book for undergraduate students of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. The book is intended to supplement a single semester introductory course to the principles of power plants. It covers the classification of energy conversion, and explains how various forms of power plants have evolved over the years. It helps students understand the Energy conservation and power tariff system, and the advanced technology used in sub-critical, supercritical, and fluidized bed boilers, losses in turbine, condenser and its tube cleaning and cooling tower. Students learn about the gas turbine, understanding the turbine cycles and the methods of blade cooling and jet propulsion. The book also explains India’s nuclear power strategy, and its goals of producing nuclear energy to fuel its power requirements. In addition, it explains mini and micro hydroelectric generation, governing of hydro turbines and diesel power plants, alternate energy sources and power generation methods, covering solar thermal and photovoltaic, wind, gasification, geothermal, tidal, thermionic, thermoelectric, tidal, and biomass power sources. Students will understand how to solve problems based on these topics, and through the large number of solved and unsolved problems, they will see how the examination papers are set. The book is a decisive reference, providing even the Steam tables and Mollier diagrams at the end to help students solve the problems.
