Principles of Geotechnical Engineering by Braja M. Das is a comprehensive book on introduction to soil mechanics. It comprises of overview of soil properties and mechanics, field practices and the fundamental engineering procedure. The book has a large number of solved problems and some unsolved for exercise, and also figures and pictures for better understanding of the subject for students. Some of the topics it covers are sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, variation of the maximum and minimum void ratios of granular soils due to different sizes, shapes and many non-plastic minute contents, the Kozeny-Carman equation and a new chapter dedicated for plasticity and structure of the soil. The book is essential for Civil Engineers and other streams that have Geotechnical Engineering as a part of their course. About Dr Braja M. Das Dr Das completed his PhD at the University of Wisconsin, in Geotechnical Engineering. His areas of expertise and interests are shallow foundations, geosynthetics and earth anchors. He has been honoured with many awards, including the AMOCO Foundation Award, AT&T Award for Teaching Excellence and the Ralph Teetor Award among many others. He has also authored numerous textbooks based on the subject including Fundamentals of Geotechnical Engineering, Principles of Foundation Engineering, Earth Anchors, Advanced Soil Mechanics and Advanced Soil Mechanics among many other works.
