Along with detailed theory, Product Design: Techniques In Reverse Engineering And New Product Development also presents concrete examples of the newest techniques and principles of modern product designing. Summary Of The Book Product Design: Techniques In Reverse Engineering And New Product Development, provides a detailed study of the processes and methods of structured design. The fundamental approach of reverse engineering and teardowns provides an innovative learning cycle, of understanding, experience, hypothesis and execution. In the first chapter, the author discusses the foundation of product design. This includes a philosophy for learning, and for implementing the various methods of product design. Each of the following chapters deal with the basic, as well as the advanced techniques, of the related phases of product development. The topics covered in the book include Journeys in Product Development, Process Tools of Product Development, Scoping Product Development, Understanding The Needs Of Customers, Establishing Product Function, Product Portfolio, Product Architecture, Portfolio Architecture, Generating Concepts, Selection of Concepts, Concept Embodiment, Product Teardown, and Experimentation, Design For Manufacture and Assembly, Design for Robustness, Design for the Environment, and Physical Prototypes. The book also includes 4 Appendices, which are Function Structure Definition, DOE Tables, Triz Relationship Table, and Eco-Indicator Environmental Assessment. The effective and practical approach of Product Design: Techniques In Reverse Engineering And New Product Development makes it useful for students as well as practitioners. Through this book, the authors provide the readers with helpful hands-on-product experience, as well as the application of modern technologies of the field. Foundation material of product design, and theory and concrete examples are also provided in the book. About The Authors Kevin Otto is a professor and author.
