Summary Of The Book This book is essentially a guide that shows readers how to create Web 2.0 applications in order to make use of the infinite amounts of content on the World Wide Web. Through Programming Collective Intelligence, readers will delve into the topic of writing algorithm codes in order to generate information about user experience, personal tastes, marketing, and general patterns in human behaviour. These codes are described in detail so that they may used immediately on personal blogs, websites or other applications. This manual covers various topics such as filtering techniques which enable online retailers to suggest products, Bayesian filtering for spam filters, numerical value predictions and vector machines to name a few. Within each chapter, readers will find exercises that allow algorithms to be extended, allowing for better use of the data that is available on the internet. This text was released in 2007 and had sold over 20,000 copies since 2008. About Toby Segaran Toby Segaran, is the founder of the biotech software company Incellico. He has authored two other books about data management and programming called Beautiful Data and Programming The Semantic Web, both published by O’Reilly Media.
