It concentrates on providing a strong foundation in the basic, underlying platform of independent sites. It then provides an introduction to the leading web programming technologies and platforms. It begins by introducing the fundamentals of the World Wide Web. In this section, the book introduces the Internet and the World Wide Web. It explains the very basic components that enable the internet to function, like the Hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), mail protocol (MIME), and universal resource locator (URL). It also covers web security and the resources available to the web programmer. It provides an introduction to web servers and web browsers. The book then covers platform independent technologies like XHTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, the Document Object Model (DOM), static and dynamic web programming concepts. Other books by Sebesta are Principles of Programming Languages and Concepts of Programming Languages. He writes books on programming languages. Robert Sebesta has a degree in applied mathematics. He also has a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in Computer Science from Pennsylvania State University. His interests include software testing tools and techniques, compiler design and programming languages. He is in the faculty of the University of Colorado and is a part of its Computer Science department.
