He had heard of Near Death Experiences (NDE), but he believed that they were hallucinations created by the brain. He had never been an especially religious man and did not think too much about what came after death. Until, in 2008, he was affected by a bacterial infection. It affected the functioning of his brain and his body began to shut down and he slipped into a coma. He was in that condition for seven days. When doctors began to doubt his chances, Dr. Alexander experienced a miraculous recovery.
