This work of fiction is a story of a divorced mother and young artist who lives in California. With an unclear past her mother keeps from her and the many challenges she faces that come in her way for a strongly rooted life, Queen of Dreams becomes a page-turner novel keeping the readers gripped throughout. Summary of the book Rakhi, the female protagonist lives in Berkeley, California. She is divorced and is a single mother. As an artist, Rakhi goes through a creative dry spell fighting many odds that come along her way – a property at Berkeley she tries to save, raising her daughter and a mother who can interpret and read dreams but keeps her past guarded. When a national tragedy strikes, Rakhi’s life is turned upside down and just when she needs her mother the most, she loses her to an untimely demise due to a car crash. The story further reveals how her mother’s dream journals do help Rakhi to revisit her unclear past and make the present easier for grasping. About Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni Chitra was born in India and she now lives in Houston. She has been widely read and her works have been published in the Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker and 50 other magazines. She currently teaches Creative Writing program at the University of Houston. Chitra is known for spinning fresh, captivating stories for her novels and has judged prestigious awards including the National Book Award and the PEN Faulkner Award.
