In our progressive Democracy, law has registered comprehensive developments in almost all areas of human activities. The new trends in different branches of law such as constitutional law, criminal law, etc. are reflected quite often in Criminal Procedure Law. The developments in international law such as human rights, civil and political rights, etc. are also reflected in Criminal Procedure Law. This position makes it obligatory for the students of Criminal Procedure to study it comprehensively. This also calls for topic-wise study emphasising the theoretical foundations of various provisions in the CrPC. We have however been focussing attention on various provisions rather than on various topics till our teacher, the late Prof. R.V. Kelkar of Delhi University produced this book, the Outlines of Criminal Procedure. This book has improved the quality of teaching of Criminal Procedure in our country. A new feature added in this edition is a List of Suggested Readings, which is a compilation of articles by legal luminaries to widen the scope of discussion on several topics.
