The Ramayana is one of India’s greatest epics and is given the utmost regard. The story tells us the duties that one has in all kinds of relationships. Some of these include: the ideal father, the ideal servant, the ideal brother, the ideal wife and the ideal king. Summary of the Book The Ramayana is a continuous source of spiritual, cultural and artistic inspiration to all readers. It depicts Rama as the ideal son, husband and ruler. His wife Sita is the embodiment of the ideal woman. Bala Kanda, Ayodhya Kanda, Aranya Kanda, Kishkinda Kanda, Sundara Kanda and Yuddha Kanda form the various sections of this great love story. Starting with Valmiki and Narada, Bala Kanda deals with Dasaratha and the birth of the great Lord Rama. The story moves on to how Vishvamitra takes the lads to the forest and ends with the famous Sita Kalyanam. The second part of the epic deals with Rama being banished from his home and Bharata’s appeal. In the third part, you will read about Sita being taken to Lanka. Kishkinda Kanda deals with Rama’s search for Sita while Sundara Kanda talks about Hanuman entering Lanka and saving Sita.
