Kyanite, andalusite, and sillimanite are minerals that have the same chemical formula but differ in crystal structure and physical properties which are termed Polymorphs. Kyanite, named from the Greek word kyanos, is usually blue but also can be white, gray or green. However, the color is not consistent throughout the crystal and can be blochy or have streaks. Kyanite can be tranparent to translucent in appearance with moderate internal characteristics due to its origin in metamorphic rock. Mines can be found in Brazil, the USA in North Carolina and Georgia, Switzerland, Russia, Serbia, India and Kenya.
