In this book, Amit Chaudhuri reaches out to his readers, this time with Real Time: Stories And A Reminiscence, which is a collection of 16 short stories, which gives glimpses of of life in Bombay and Calcutta, stretching from the 1970s to the present times. Summary Of The Book Real Time: Stories And A Reminiscence is a collection of short stories, through which its author Amit Chaudhuri paints a vivid picture of contemporary India. There are 16 revealing stories in this collection, each taking readers into a different setting and into the lives of different people. They contain an intermingling of the old and the new Indian world. As an ironic and detailed observer, Chaudhuri portrays the harsh realities of life. Some of the pieces in this volume are ruminations, while some have a combination of folklore. There is a tinge of traditionalism in some, while some are fused with western values. Different flavours of the old and new make for variety in this collection. The titles of some of the stories included are The Great Game, White Lies, The Party and Old Masters, The Man from Khurda District, Real Times, and Portrait of an Artist Prelude to an Autobiography. There is a story of a divorcee entering into an arranged marriage and another of a teenaged poet who is in a relationship with a lonely widower. The Party and Old Masters deals with the story of relationships between friends and colleagues and the White Lies is a narrative centered on a businessman and his wife are also presented. In The Great Game, the authors writes on the subsequent course of events of two policemen who watches a cricket tournament. Another story titled The Man from Khurda District stresses on the life of a sweeper family in Calcutta. Chaudhuri’s infusion of myriad themes in his stories makes Real Time: Stories And A Reminiscence an interesting read. About Amit Chaudhuri Amit Chaudhuri is an internationally acclaimed Indian Author and Academician. His novels include A Strange And Sublime Address, Freedom Song, Afternoon Raag, The Immortals, and A New World. In addition to these, he has written a number of short stories, pieces of non-fiction, anthologies, and poetry. Chaudhuri has a unique writing style, which can be best termed as fluid and lyrical. He is married to the granddaughter of the noted physicist Satish Ranjan Khastgir. Chaudhuri is presently working as a professor at the University of East Anglia, teaching Contemporary Literature. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for his book, A New World, Encore Award for the book Afternoon Raag, Infosys Award and a few other awards.
