About the Book:An African American "regeneration" or "renaissance" has meant a rewriting and a redefinition of their own selves, which embeds within it the concepts of black consciousness, a challenge to European hegemony and a reawakening of the African people. The concept of a black renaissance was an attempt at renegotiating the relationship between the Black world and European domination, political as well as cultural and ideological. Methodologies of history, cultural anthropology, political sociology have been used to examine the African American past. "Whiteness" and "Blackness" are both being restructured and redefined to break the unequal relationships between different groups. This book is a study of the select writing of Toni Morrison, Alice Walkar and Gloria Naylor and how they have succeeded in giving a new meaning to "Blackness" equating it with beauty and strength.About the Authors: Dr. Shobha Padmakar Shinde is currently the Director, School of Language Studies and Research Centre, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon.
