Education is the root of modernization and human development. Education promotes mobilization and encourages people to participate in development activities. Education makes people skilled towards jobs and creates productive efficiency. Since Independence, the government both Central and States have been playing a crucial role in promotion of education through various channels like opening of ashram schools, creating hostel facilities, supply of teaching materials, benefit of stipends, supply of reading and writing materials, supply of uniform, exemption from tuition fees, provision of pre and post -matric scholarship, and covering schools under the provision of mid day scheme, etc. Mid day meal is an ambitious scheme which is not only provides nutritious food to the children but promotes enrollment, maintain retention, increase attendance, develop performance of the students, inculcates discipline, reduce frequent illness among the students, develop healthy practice like wash hands before and after having food, wash their belonging like plates and glass, maintain queue while collecting food, develop brotherhood atmosphere, etc among the children. On the other hand, this scheme gives great relief to the parents which are unable to feed their children due to economic constraints, and bound to go out side for employment. This scheme eliminates child labour, reduces migration of the children, and simultaneously promotes Fundamental Right of Child through basic education.
