Summary of the Book A gigantic, cylindrical craft appears in the solar system, sparking debate and speculation about its origin. The craft, known as Rama, is clearly from an advanced civilization. The citizens of the solar system commission a journey to the craft, investigating it. They are mesmerized by its puzzles, astonished by the ubiquitous trilateral symmetry of its structures, its cylindrical sea and the machine-island.
