This book has been written primarily to serve as a textbook in accordance with the syllabus of Renewable Energy Resources offered by AKTU- Lucknow. It is intended to provide a student with a clear understanding of the fundamentals of Non- Conventional Energy Resources with an emphasis on the current status and scope of India and other countries. The oil crisis of 1973 and concern for the environment due to the excessive use of fossil fuels have led to a remarkable global effort to harness renewable energy sources. The related technologies are also referred to as non-conventional energy technologies as, at present, their large-scale use is not common. These technologies are steadily gaining technical and economic importance worldwide. Most governments have substantial plans directed towards encouraging these technologies in order to develop them commercially.
