Summary of the Book In the early 60s, Jamie Morton begins an unlikely friendship with Reverend Charles Jacobs. The Reverend and his wife are very popular in the small New England town. Jamie and the Reverend are equally mesmerized by electricity, frequently indulging in experiments. However, tragedy strikes the family and the preacher curses God and is banished for his blasphemy. Years later, in his mid-thirties, Jamie is haunted by his past. Addicted to heroin, the nomadic rock ‘n roll bar band member tries to find a future. He encounters Jacobs again.
