In this work the author has attempted to give the history of the rise of the Portuguese, connected with the general history of India. There are 14 chapters in the book that notice : the Malabars; arms and methods of warfare, voyages, piracy; religion, coins; the early years – 1497 to 1504 The book then proceeds chronologically to describe the various governors who came the Portuguese helm : Almeida; D’Alberquerque; Soares; De Menezes, De Sampayo, revenue settlements of Goa; Nuno Da Cunha; De Noronha, E. Da Gama (Vasco’s son); De Sousa; Da Casto, De Sa. The book concludes in the year 1550 At the end of the book there is an appendix on Malacca, the Moluccas, and China. This book was first published in 1899
