Rohinton Mistry’s esteem as a fictionist has grown over the years. Although settled in Canada for the past many years, his engagement with the Indian reality subsuming his specific concern for the problems of the fast depleting Parsi community is well acknowledged. The present critique underlines Mistry’s sociological insight as he deals, in fictional disguise, with the social structure and relationships, process of social change or the lack of it, and various ills afflicting our society. As one steeped in postmodern ethos, Mistry brings to bear new light on the important domains of values and identity politics.
