In the words of the author “this work is written for the joy and emotions of its reader”. To interest and to amuse, this book does not pretend to be a book of history, the descriptions of events that are described are chosen primarily because of the authors residence in those places. The book wanders all over Ceylon: from Rawna in the South to Jaffna in the north. It is full of little anecdotes and folk tales which make it very pleasant reading. There are 12 chapters in this book, each dealing with a specific topic : a general description of the Ceylon and its natural features; the cities of Bintenna, Ruhuna, fort Aleza, Sabargamuwa, and Jaffna.
