Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare’s greatest and most famous plays. Summary of the Book When Juliet meets Romeo at a ball hosted by her family, she is surprised. Their families don’t get along, in fact, the Capulets and the Montagues are infamous for their blood feud. Romeo is discovered and he leaves the ball. He sneaks into the garden and into Juliet’s balcony to serenade her with his offer of love. They fall in love and decide to get married. The Friar Laurence is eager to help them, hoping it’d end the feud. However, the situation begins to turn ugly when Juliet’s cousin challenges Romeo to a duel. Romeo stands to lose not only Juliet but his life as well, and Juliet will be married off to a man that her family has chosen. One of Shakespeare’s most tragic plays, it is also his most famous work. About William Shakespeare William Shakespeare was an English playwright and poet. Popularly called “The Bard of Avon”, he is largely considered one of the greatest writers in English history.
