Romeo and Juliet, first published in the year 1597, was originally written as a play by William Shakspeare until various adaptations turned it into a novel. The story is set in the 14th century and based upon the Italian tale, The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet, which was written by Arthur Brook in 1562. Shakespeare was inspired by the tragic saga of two lovers belonging to families of Verona, Montague and Capulet, who were raged by an aged feud. He based his play on Arthur’s book and a prose, Palace of Pleasure, which was written by the popular writer William Painter in the year 1582, to construct a stronger and more exclusive narration of the love story. Romeo, the son of Montague, falls in love with Juliet, the daughter of Capulet, and they decide to get married. Do the lovers finally meet, or does the story end in some unfortunate tragedy is what the book holds for its readers. William Shakespeare is a famous playwright and poet of numerous plays like Merchant of Venice, Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing. He was born in 1564 in Stratford. He pursued a thriving career in London as a writer and actor. He passed away on April 23, 1616.
