Safe Haven is the story of a young woman who struggles to love again, while trying to hide from her secret past. Summary Of The Book Safe Haven begins with the sudden arrival of a woman named Katie in the North Carolina town of Southport. Her sudden arrival in the community surprises the neighbourhood. A number of questions about her history begin to surface. But Katie keeps away from developing any personal ties with the people in the neighbourhood. Reluctantly, however, Katie is drawn into two relationships. Alex is a widow with two young children. He is kind at heart and owns a store. Jo is her forthright neighbour who is single. Katie lets down her guard and start getting attached to Alex and his family. As Katie falls in love, she still struggles to come to terms with her past, which terrifies her and is still a secret. It was her past that brought her to the sheltered town of Southport, after having travelled across the country in fear. Jo however helps Katie and tells her to choose between living under a brief period of safety and taking her chances in pursuit of riskier rewards. Katie begins to realize that love is the only true safe haven in her darkest hour. A film bearing the same title was released in 2013 directed by Lasse Hallström.
