About Alvin Schwartz Alvin Schwartz was a children’s author with many books on American folklore to his credit. In addition to the Scary Stories series, he also wrote several other books like Fat Man in a Fur Coat: And Other Bear Stories, All of Our Noses Are Here and Other Noodle Tales, Ten Copycats in a Boat and Other Riddles, Stories to Tell a Cat, Ghosts!: Ghostly Tales from Folklore, and The Cat's Elbow and Other Secret Languages. Alvin Schwartz’s books explore a wide range of topics, including urban legends, ghost stories, wordplay, jokes, riddles, tongue-twisters, and superstitions. Some of his books provide insights into the American way of life in the 18th century and the early 19th century. His spine-chilling writing gained him many fans, young and old. Alvin Schwartz was born on April 25, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York. After a stint in the navy, he graduated from Colby College and went on to earn a master’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University. From 1951 to 1955, he worked for the Binghamton Press. He died at the age of 64 in Princeton, New Jersey. Schwartz is survived by his wife and four children. Stephen Gammell has illustrated more than 50 books for children. Some of them are Song and Dance Man, The Relatives Came, and Where the Buffaloes Begin.
