It is our immense pleasure to release this book “Concise Pediatric Gastroenterologyand Hepatology” as a part of Scott’s Pedia-Tricks Speciality Series (SPSS). The initialidea was to have a short handbook for exam going postgraduate students. However,as editors, we felt that it should be an enjoyable reading and also expand the knowledgeso that it is applied in clinical practice. Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatologyhave evolved recently into a distinct sub-speciality in many developing countries. Thisis mainly due to the advent of endoscopic procedures, imaging procedures, geneticsequencing, and accessibility to liver transplantation. It has become a dire necessity forpostgraduates and practicing pediatricians to understand them and apply them clinically. We have reviewed the previous years' Paediatric postgraduate university exam questionsin this sub-speciality and carefully devised the chapters to cover the exam syllabus. This book has been therefore devised not just as an exam manual for postgraduatetrainees but also as a concise handbook that will help in clinical decision making underbedside manual for practicing pediatricians. This book has been written in a very simplisticway for easy understanding and to be useful for quick reference. The book has dividedinto 3 subdivisions namely pediatric hepatology, gastroenterology, and pancreas. Eachsubdivision will have basic Embryology, developmental disorders, acquired disorders, andmanagement strategies. The authors who have contributed to this book have extensiveexperience in the field. We would like to thank Dr. Kinisha Patel for helping us with thelogistics of the editorial process. We hope that this book will be an enjoyable reading forpediatricians at the same time providing adequate information for their clinical practice.Naresh ShanmugamMalathi Sathiyasekaran
