DURING THE last few years, there has been immense thinking about all aspects of Indian education which resulted in the formulation of a new policy on education. The documents in this volume reflect the attempts made in the direction of implementing this policy. The material has been grouped in two parts. Part one presents a historical survey of educational planning, policies and development. Part two includes documentary selections. The documents cover the period from 1985 to 1990. The earlier volume entitled Development of Education in India has covered the period before and after Independence up to the year 1985.
