Balsam ‘Tom Thumb Mix’ is a dwarf mix, growing to 12 to 14 inches tall. A shade lover, it will grow in full to part sun as well. Plants bloom all summer long and do best in rich, well drained soil. Balsams reseed readily. The bright flowers attract hummingbirds, and it self sows in most climates. Shade-tolerant. Impatiens balsamina is also known as Touch-Me-Not, which refers to the way the seed pods explode when ripe, flinging the seeds into the air.
