Betel nut is a seed of the Areca Catechu tree, which is cultivated in the tropical Pacific Islands and parts of Asia and Africa. Its use is widely prevalent throughout the world. Medical use of betel nut is limited, while scientific evidence reveals its various health hazards It is a medium-sized palm tree growing up to 20 m tall. The leaves are long, pinnate, with numerous, crowded leaflets. The tree bears small, fragrant, and whitish-yellow flowers which give way to deep yellow to red fruits that are much larger than the normal supari. They are 2-2.5 inches long, egg-shaped.
