Morgan Matson’s Since You've Been Gone is a coming-of-age novel about a young girl who tries to find her friend by following a series of tasks left behind for her. Summary of the Book Before meeting Sloane, Emily’s life was normal to say the least. She didn’t go out with guys, she didn’t try new and perhaps crazy things, and she just lived a life she would now consider mediocre. Sloane’s entrance was like the coming of a storm, upsetting everything Emily thought was normal and dislodging her senses completely. And just like a storm, Sloane vanishes before what was supposed to be a promising summer. Emily is distraught at losing her best friend’s presence in her life. She gets no calls from Sloane, no texts, nothing. Except, there is something Sloane left for her: a curious list with thirteen crazy tasks for Emily to complete. Some of them seemed simple enough, how hard would it be to pick apples at night or dance till dawn? But kissing a stranger? That’s just bizarre! But Emily is dedicated to Sloane’s memory and she will do anything to find something connecting her to her best friend.
