Sivagamiyin Sapatham, authored by Kalki Krishnamurthy, is one of the greatest Tamil historical novels ever written, along with his work Ponniyin Selvan. Summary of the Book Sivagamiyin Sapatham means The Vow of Sivagami. This historical novel was originally written in the year 1944. It was serialized in Kalki, a weekly magazine, for about 12 years. The book details on several historical events and people from as long ago as the 7th century. Part one of the book talks about the journey of Paranjothi. The siege of Kanchi is covered in the second part. Part three is titled as The Monk’s Love and part four, The Shattered Dream. The book brings out various human emotions to the forefront, while it unravels the historical events. It is a scholarly work created by Kalki. About Kalki Krishnamurthy Kalki Krishnamurthy was born in Tamil Nadu in the year 1899. He was a very famous Tamil writer, freedom fighter, novelist, satirist, poet, and Indian independence activist, among many other things. He has written more than 120 short stories, 10 novelettes, 3 historical romances, five novels and many other political, movies and music reviews. Some of the works penned by Kalki are Kalvanin Kaadhali, Devagiyin Kanavan, Imayamalai Engal Malai, Mohini Theevu and Solaimalai Ilavarasi.
