In the beginning of the 20th century, there were few institutions of higher education and social science Libraries in India. Collections of the libraries were then small, and the proliferation of social science information limited. Hence the problem o f bibliographical control did not exist but after Independence not only the proliferation of social science information increased, a number of higher education and social science libraries also developed to meet the information research needs of social science scholars making bibliographical control a necessity. Social Science Information in India: Effort Towards Bibliographical Control attempts to analyse the development of social sciences in India, and the bibliographical attempts made by individuals and institutions. Evaluates the state of bibliographical control of Social Sciences. Seeks to study the information gathering habits of social sciences scholars, and how they feel about the usefulness and effectiveness of the bibliographical sources and what help they from libraries and information centers.
