Social security has been an encompassing and comprehensive concept touching across multiple disciplines of Social science namely sociology, economics, finance, administration law and psychology. Since time immemorial, security has been a hallmark indicator of the tenet of civilization; a defining feature of humanity. The society has been one of the key manifestations of the extension of the norms of security of human being.The aspect of social security, already embedded in the Indian value system was formally recognised by the framers of the Constitution of India, and the same principle was amalgamated in the Constitution as a part of social justice. While it finds an explicit mention in the Concurrent List [item 23], the State is directed to assure it in the directive principles of the state policy [articles 38, 39, 41-43, 43 A, 43 B]. This reflects the paramount importance of the subject-matter in the eyes of our forefathers for future legislation in this domain.
