Sons And Lovers is a sensual classic by D. H. Lawrence. Summary of the Book Gertrude and Walter Morel were a match made in hell. Their marriage has broken down into open war, Walter is uneducated and violent at times, prone to starting arguments with the delicate and intelligent Gertrude. Their sons, William and Paul, decide that they will find better lives for themselves. They refuse to work in the coal mines like their father. However, Paul seeks to escape the suffocating grasp of his mother. He seeks retribution in the arms of women his own age, lovers that he hopes will tear him away from his issues. Largely autobiographical, this is one of D. H. Lawrence’s most compelling portrayal of adolescence, childhood and the generation gap. About D. H.
