DR. Samir K. Hui is an eminent writer and a professor of English. Atpresent he heads the department of English of Dhamnagar College,Dhamnagar. He has been teaching English language and literaturein various colleges under Higher Education Department in Odisha.He is a creative writer, a poet of repute and a short story writerboth in Odia and English. He has authored at least thirteen books which have received worldwide recognition. Repeated requestsfrom students have urged him to compose such a book speciallymeant for undergraduate students of Odisha to provide them withthe background knowledge for an understanding and appreciationof English literature in nut shell and literary forms in details. Thebook contains seventeen chapters in all and all the chapters dealwith the topics like the various kinds of poetry, drama, and prosefiction, rules of versification , poetic diction, figures of speech in aneasy popular form. A separate chapter has been devoted to describethe features, nature and functions of One-Act play.
