One of the prominent literary personalities of our times Jyotirmaya Thakur ushers in a whiff of fresh air into the world of poetry by her latest collection of poems in an anthology titled "SPECTRUMS OF REALITY ". The poems in this anthology clearly shed light on the human tendencies and stances inherent in our society and how these aspects are manipulated by the vested interest groups. Her pen wages a relentless battle against social injustices and inequalities which do degrade human beings in multiple ways. Her poems do bring into the mainstream of the society salient features such as the struggles of the ordinary people for survival, their plights and predilections, the existential crisis the least, the last and the lost go through, the fight of the underprivileged and dispossessed to be heard, the indomitable spirit shown by the poor and the downtrodden people to ensure their existence, the dignity and honesty displayed by these socially marginalised and penalised people, the mental agonies these social disadvantaged people undergo, the material deprivations they suffer in life, the gender discriminations practised in our society in the name of culture, the social stigmas, taboos and inhibitions that are rampant in our society, the abject poverty experienced by the economically backward people, the personal traumas and tragedies encountered by the people of stifled nature, the lack of freedom of expression people do have, the issues of child labour and cutting female children from the educational system, the poor working conditions prevalent in our workplaces, the problems of the abandoned and deprived street children, the fight of the socially muzzled women to reassert their rights, the domination of the society by the patriarchal elements and their pejorative attitudes towards issues concerning women, the manifold problems faced by our farmers, the hope for the establishment of a new society where all do have their say, the exhortation to protect ecology.
