  Sport (UK) or sports (US) are all usually forms of competitivephysical activity or games which, through casual or organizedparticipation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability andskills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some cases,entertainment for spectators. Usually the contest or game is betweentwo sides, each attempting to exceed the other. Some sports allowa tie game; others provide tie-breaking methods, to ensure onewinner and one loser. A number of such two-sided contests maybe arranged in a tournament producing a champion. Many sportsleagues make an annual champion by arranging games in a regularsports season, followed in some cases by playoffs. Hundreds ofsports exist, from those between single contestants, through to thosewith hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams orcompeting as individuals. In certain sports such as racing, manycontestants may compete, each against each other, with one winner.Sport is generally recognised as system of activities which arebased in physical athleticism or physical dexterity, with the largestmajor competitions such as the Olympic Games admitting onlysports meeting this definition, and other organisations such as theCouncil of Europe using definitions precluding activities withouta physical element from classification as sports.
