Written in impeccable English by world-renowned Indian scholar and philosopher Swami Prabhavananda, Srimad Bhagavatam is the sacred and ancient Hindu text written originally in Sanskrit and translated into English. Summary Of The Book Srimad Bhagavatam, also known as The Bhagavata Purana or Bhagavata, is one of the most popular and significant holy scriptures in India, alongside the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads. Literally translated to mean the ‘divine-eternal stories of almighty God’, Srimad Bhagavatam is one of the greatest ancient Hindu texts based on religious devotion to Lord Vishnu and his many incarnations, primarily focussing on Lord Krishna, his complete incarnation. Swami Prabhavananda’s translated version of Srimad Bhagavatam has been written with the view to retain and convey its unique essence and preserve the spirit of the original text, which depicts many well-known stories in Hinduism, including the pastimes of Lord Krishna. This book translates the more interesting portions of the book, including the teachings of Krishna. Accredited to Veda Vyas, the original holy scriptures of Srimad Bhagavatam, written in Sanskrit, are considered to be the purest of all puranas representing goodness in its highest form, and invoking devotion towards Lord Vishnu and his avatar, Lord Krishna (Svayam Bhagavan). Due to its immense popularity, it was the first Hindu scripture to be translated in the European world, with three French translations published in the 19th century.
